How it works

Omascreen does the zooming. You decide how much of it you want.

  1. 01

    Capture

Pick a monitor or a region, take the mic or the desktop audio, and go. Omascreen zooms in on every click as you work.

  2. 02

    Adjust the zooms

Pick how the zoom behaves and how often it moves. You never have to re-record to change it.

    Moments Follow Raw Paced
  3. 03

    Add title or transition

Drop a title or a transition onto the timeline and type into it. Trim the dead ends while you're there.

  4. 04

    Export

Export at the shape you recorded, any size down from it. You get an MP4 you can upload or send anywhere.

// The zoom

Zoom styles

Once the recording is done, you choose how the zoom behaves and how busy it is. The bars show when it's zoomed in.

Moments

Stays wide, zooms in on each click, then comes straight back out.

Follow

Stays zoomed in while you work, travelling with you when you move somewhere else.

Raw

Zooms in on everything you did. Nothing to tune.

Paced

Like Raw, but it sits back at normal for five seconds before zooming in again.

How often it moves

Moments and Follow only — Raw and Paced set their own pace.

None

No automatic zooms at all.

Less

Short zooms that let go quickly. At most a third of the recording is zoomed in.

Balanced

The default. A zoom lasts as long as you keep working.

More

Holds longer and joins nearby clicks into one zoom, up to 25 seconds.

// Questions

FAQ

Do I need Omarchy?

Omascreen is built for it. It reads your monitors from Hyprland, which is what Omarchy runs.

Does it work on other Linux distros?

Not tested yet. Omarchy is the only setup Omascreen is being built against right now. It needs a Hyprland session, so other Hyprland setups may well work — but nothing else has been checked.

What else do I need installed?

ffmpeg and gpu-screen-recorder. Omascreen checks for them when it starts and tells you what is missing before you record.

Can I turn the automatic zooms off?

Yes. Set how often to None and nothing is planned. You can also switch to a different zoom style once the recording is done, without recording it again.

Does it record what I type?

It records when you typed, never what. Clicks work the same way: the moment one landed, not which button it was. That is all it needs to place a zoom.

Does anything leave my machine?

No. There is no server to talk to, nothing is uploaded and nothing is reported back. Your recordings are files on your own disk.

What do I get at the end?

An MP4 at the shape you recorded, at whatever size you pick down from it. It opens anywhere and needs nothing installed to play.

Is Omascreen really free?

Yes. Everything described on this page is included, with no watermark and no time limit.
